BEAT Stands with Black Lives

BEAT mourns the loss of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Nina Pop, Tony McDade, and too many others whose lives have been lost to racial violence amid the COVID-19 pandemic. We stand with those taking to the streets and engaging at home by calling on their elected officials, and holding difficult discussions with their loved ones to root out systematic injustice and bring about change.

We express solidarity with social justice organizations working to address structural racism, police brutality, economic inequality, and equitable access to healthcare. Therefore, we proudly support the Emergency Release Fund (ERF) and The People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond (PISAB).

We amplify ERF’s work to end money bail and pretrial detention for medically vulnerable individuals who identify as LGBTQ. June is Pride Month – a global movement sparked by the Stonewall riots and incursions with the police. We affirm the importance of our Black Trans and Queer family who live at the intersections of immunodeficiency and incarceration.

As a minority-led organization, we applaud PISAB’s efforts to create a more just and equitable society through Community Organizing Workshops, technical assistance, and consultations. Their hands-on training teaches participants how to turn their good intent into effective action.

Please consider joining us in donating to the Emergency Relief Fund and The People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond during these times of tremendous unrest.

BEAT’s mission is to unlock the social, emotional, and creative potential of underserved youth and people with disabilities through Hip Hop-based arts education. Upholding our mission means upholding Black lives.

Black Lives Matter.
